The famous physicist Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879, in Ulm, in the Kingdom of Württemberg in the German Empire. His parents were Hermann Einstein, a salesman and engineer, and Pauline Koch. At an early age, Einstein showed great interest in math and science, leading to his development of the theory of relativity, which is one of the two pillars of modern physics (the other being quantum mechanics).
Einstein's family moved to Munich in 1880, where his father and uncle founded Elektrotechnische Fabrik J. Einstein & Cie, a company that manufactured electrical equipment based on direct current. They also had a second company that focused on the development of a new type of street lighting. Unfortunately, these business ventures were not successful, and the family faced financial difficulties.
In 1889, the Einstein family moved to Italy after his father's company faced bankruptcy. Albert remained in Munich to complete his studies at the Luitpold Gymnasium and later joined his family in Pavia, where he continued his education at the Aarau Cantonal School. Einstein excelled in his studies and was particularly interested in physics and mathematics.
Einstein renounced his German citizenship in 1896 and enrolled in the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich to pursue his education in physics and mathematics. After graduating in 1900, Einstein struggled to find a teaching position and eventually found work as a technical assistant at the Swiss Patent Office. It was during this time that he continued to develop his ideas about theoretical physics, publishing several groundbreaking papers.
In 1905, Einstein published his theory of relativity, which introduced the famous equation E=mc². This theory revolutionized the field of physics and led to Einstein's recognition as one of the most influential scientists of all time. In 1921, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the photoelectric effect.
Einstein's contributions to science and his advocacy for pacifism and civil rights have left a lasting impact on the world. He passed away on April 18, 1955, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire and influence generations of scientists and thinkers.
